The „balcony of Umbria“,
as Montefalco has also been called because
of its splendid panoramic position on
top of a hill, preserves a special gem
in the museum of the former church of
San Francesco, built between 1335 and
1338 by the Franciscan Friars Minor
(Frati Minori): The Frescos in the middle
apse painted by Benozzo Gozzoli that
tell the story of Saint Francis. Here
you will also find another masterpiece
by Perugino. And just outside of the
city walls the tourist might visit the
monastery of San Fortunato built in
the fourth century. |
